Make That Sandwich!

Congratulations to the 2010 Mezzetta ‘Make That Sandwich’ Contest Winners!

For the third year in a row G.L. Mezzetta has hosted their annual ‘Make That Sandwich Contest’.  For the contest, people from all over the U.S. and Canada submit their favorite and original sandwich recipes, while using at least two Mezzetta products.  Every sandwich that is entered is judged on four different criteria: creative use of ingredients, taste, ease of preparation, and visual appeal. The chosen judging panel then selects three finalists, one from each of the following sandwich categories – Hot, Cold, & Vegetarian.

All 2010 contestants had from May 31st thru September 4th to submit their recipes to Mezzetta.  The winners were then notified at the end of that month that they were a ‘Make That Sandwich’ finalist.

This year the second and third place frontrunners were in the vegetarian and cold sandwich category.  The winning vegetarian sandwich was made with grilled brie and a cherry pepper pesto.  The cold category finalist made a roast beef sandwich, with goat cheese, and a pistachio pesto.  Each of these two finalists received $10,000 for their sandwich recipes!

In the hot sandwich category “The Balboa”, which is also known as the Italian Philly, was the grand prize winner for the 2010 contest.  The creator of the first place sandwich received $25,000 and a trip to Napa Valley!

Please see the link below for more ‘Make That Sandwich’ contest details.  The website shows pictures of the top three sandwiches, along with their recipes.  Also posted is a link to a YouTube video featuring a Mezzetta Panini from a previous contest.
